New Zealander CK Stead has become the first author to win the
Sunday Times Short Story Award. The 77 -year-old was honoured for his work 'Last Season's Man', and said he was 'immensely grateful and pleased' to have won the prize. The judges, including A.S. Byatt and Nick Hornby, said that Stead's book was 'a fine example of how a short story should be constructed and written'. Stead wins £25,000.
